Updates and a million things

So. DNA has reached 500 members at long last! We are growing at such a slow rate hahaha! No flood of members after the comm opened. Even after posting about the triple release I only got… 30-40 members the next day! Aw… :P

On one hand I kinda envy those groups that have 2000 members in a really short while (i.e. by having open membership). But that’s really not the route I want to go down. Its okay so long as I have people who appreciate my work, and I believe we’ll get there eventually someday. I’m here for the long term after all! Its… amazing. I was looking at my reviews master post and… its amazing. Its been over a whooping two years since I did my first review! The very first review was posted on 4th of May 2012! Of the previous day’s VSA! Two whole years… where did all the time go! Two years and 32 reviews, with a huge, long break in 2013 because of work… I’ve wrote more reviews that I have fics! Hahaha! 

Fics too… 29 fics and now finally posting my first chaptered one… I can’t believe that I’ve wrote so many already! I’m in deep trouble for the chaptered fic though… with the translations (i.e. subs) and all, I’ve not been finding the time to edit my fic! Used to have loads of time to write it at work, but not a chance now. Super busy trying to finish qPCR for all my samples… I counted today, because I like to keep track of all these random stuff… that as of today I’d have ran a total of 69 qPCR plates… in the short… roughly… 3 months? or so? 69!!! Can you believe it? That’s what… almost a plate a day? And I have other experiments to do too ya know! I swear every one else in my institute doesn’t even run that many in an entire year! And most of my plates are full plates too… Three more to complete a set, and after that another 13 more full plates… and hopefully I don’t have to repeat any cos that’ll mean I need to run more plates! And there’ll be more samples coming in still… ahhh when will I ever be able to finish! The other lab executive has already started working fully with another group. But I’m still here. With a lot of experiments to run. Sigh.

Oh a hilarious thing happened at work yesterday. One of the lab managers sent out an email asking people to clear their benches, and she posted photos of the ‘minimum’ standard lab benches should have. And I was like ‘did she post my bench?’, and lo and behold she did! Only then did I realise that… that wasn’t my official bench! My assigned bench is somewhere else, covered full of random stuff used by other people in my group. Hahahah. I wasn’t assigned any bench when I started, so I just cleared my supervisor’s bench and ‘declared’ it as my own because he doesn’t use the space at all anyway. So his bench is all nice and neat. And then today I went out with that manager for lunch and she was like ‘wait that photo! I thought it was your bench because you were always using it!’ Me: I am! Her: ‘Then I remembered your bench was at the edge!’ Me: Yes! I was like damn it, but that’s not my official bench! Her: ‘Just swap the name tags! Swap it!’
Hahahahhaa! We had quite a laugh for a while about it! XD

And its photo spam time!

Last week we had a long weekend… Monday was a public holiday so 3 days off instead of two! 

Went to orchard on Sunday and we had dinner at sushi express… but the only photo I snapped was of these cute threesome XD

Monday we had lunch with my granny at a Hokkien restaurant. My treat. And it was surprising cheap. Much cheaper than Poulet even though there was one more of us. And the food was really good too! I took more photos this time… XD

The restaurant entrance. It’s located in a shophouse in Chinatown. 

We started off with 羹汤, or thick soup. Nope this is not sharks fin soup. But it tastes really great. Dried fish maw, crab meat, chicken, mushroom… that’s what I remember of the ingredients.

We ordered noodles, 五香 (meat paste wrapped in bean curd skin and fried), 虾饺 (similarly, a meat paste wrapped in bean curd skin and deep friend, but with prawn added, and this one is cut into smaller pieces, whereas the first is one long roll) - this dish is mostly gone by the time I took this pic, only 1 prawn ball + loads of veggie left, and 蚝煎 (oysters with fried egg) - the main dish in the foreground. The Fried egg + oysters + flour was really, really nice! The flour + egg mixture was fried to a crisp! Very delicious!

Braised pork belly in a steamed bun! The steamed bun is really soft and fluffy! Very delicious!

Silver champaign favoured haagen daz. I prefer the gold coloured one though! It looks nicer! Hahaha. This also tastes good too. I’ll take haagen daz anytime baby! Anytime, any flavour! XD 

Oooo what have we here? Photos of my work place! Well a look out from the building that is! Photo taking is not allowed in the labs - lab managers are exempt from the rule though? I often get mails with photos of complains about XX waste not being cleared from XX part of the lab. Hahaha! But now that’s a different story altogether. 

Anyway… it rained heavily earlier that day, and I was pleasantly surprised to see thick fog rolling about just outside the building while on my way from the office to the lab. 

Fog and a nice sunset. Well grant, fog hardly shows up in photos, but you can still see some of it, so that means its quite a lot of fog! And considering the weather here in tropical, sunny Singapore, yes, fog is a pretty rare occurrence and can only been seen after heavy rain over dense forested areas (and dense forested areas is too, rare in urban city Singapore). 

That’s the building where I’m working at. Now you can go stalk me! Hahaha. Well pardon the raindrops. I took the shot while in the car/bus.

KFC opened at NTU! And so I hopped on the free shuttle to eat some fried roosters last Friday. It was pure coincidence that they were giving out a free sjora (some brand of mango flavoured drink) with any purchase. A huge cup too at that. I was bloated, totally bloated. No more 3 piece chicken meal + cheese fries on my own again I swear! Just 2 pieces is enough for me. 

Went to Jem that very same Friday cos my mum didn’t cook (and she had some engagement), so we went out for dinner. The traffic there was terrible. I reached the earliest, followed by my sis… and my dad? He reached, but was stuck in a jam trying to get into the car park! He tried the adjacent shopping centre but it was no different! He ended up waiting over a freaking hour to get into the shopping mall car park! Like seriously! He could have drove home, took the train out, and reached the mall long ago! (Maybe throw in a quick shower too.) He was so tired and pissed after that…. needless to say. 

But anyway, while waiting for my sis to arrive… I shopped!

Sherlock manga part two! I bought the first book ‘a study in pink’ last year… and I was so excited to see the 2nd book come out! I wasn’t even expected a second book! I’ve still not watched any other episodes of this besides the first… but I will eventually find time to watch it… and read this manga too! I love this! The original drama is a fantastic modernised rendition of Sherlock, and this manga follows the drama really closely. Well at least the first book did so I’m assuming the same for the 2nd. 

Saw this novel too, but I didn’t buy it. The movie cast went on VSA before (that’s how I knew about this movie), and I reviewed that episode so I remember it really well. Their childish squabbling and all! XD 

Rurouni Kenshin! The novel adapted from the movie! I wanna watch this movie! The movie team went on VSA too and I just watched it yesterday… Together with the Nazodi, platinum data, kagi heya, suspect x, toto chan novels… so many novels that I’ve bought but I have no idea when I’ll be able to read them properly… arghs…! 

So a random shot of the place we ate at that day. Super long queues EVERYWHERE on a Friday evening. 

The karaage set that my sis ate… no photos of the rest though. But it was delicious!

Okays. Enough pictures for today I guess! Words of the day! Been wanting to post these words for a loooonnnggg time but as usual, procrastination wins the day. 

There has been way too many words that I’ve searched the meaning of now that I’m doing the subs, so these are just a few selected words. 

トルコ (toruko)- Turkey. Not the bird that you eat at Christmas! But the place!
Second time I came across this word and hard to check the meaning, cos I forgot it the first time round after I checked! The first time was… during VSA or something? I can’t remember… but the second instance came in the Nino-san review I did. When the newbie AD went to eat Turkish ice cream! XD

零れ (こぼれ,kobore) - Spill, leftovers. 
This came during the 8th June Aiba Manabu. And I think they were referring to this word in the short Music Day promotion clip I did when they were like yelling ‘tadabore’ over and over again. And I tried search over and over but I couldn’t for the death of me find what ‘tadabore’ meant. Until that was finished and released and I was doing Aiba Manabu. Damn! On hindsight now I guess they meant ‘tada kobore’? But back then me searching for ‘tada bore’, or more specifically ‘bore’ yielded no results…. damn!

皺 (しわ, shiwa) - wrinkle; crease. ripple
Again, appeared in that same Aiba Manabu episode. They were trying to straighten out the ripples on the edge of the frying pan!

生まれ変わり (うまれかわり, umaremawari) - Rebirth; reincarnation.
Last word for today! They’ve used this word before in their shows and I’ve searched the meaning before…  but when I came across the word again during Sho’s shampoo CM I was once again wondering if it meant ‘born again and changed’ or just ‘born again’ and I had to check to be sure. Because this phrase is made of two parts! 生まれ (うまれ) means born, and 変わり (かわり) means change…. so yeah. But I guess when you are reborn you are already changed… hahaha! XD 

Arghs. The big reason why this post took so long before I finally wrote it was the lack of a good mobile app... else I would just make the post on my phone, instead of having to connect my phone to my lappy so that the pictures will be transferred over... pfft... why does LJ get so little love? :(

(I came over from DNA, though I've already been reading some of your entries every now and then even before joining DNA!! Sorry if this sounds a little creepy, since I don't think I've ever commented here before!! m(_ _)m )

Can I just ask about the Platinum Data novel that you bought?
I've seen the japanese novel out in the stores but I was wondering if there's a chinese(/english --> I really wish!!!)translated version of it cus I do have Ryuusei novel (in chinese) and I'm kinda hoping that they do have a translated version of that novel.
