Kim Dotcom is back… with Mega
Jan. 23rd, 2013 02:31 amSo i was reading techland when i came across this article… Forget MegaUpload… he's come with something even better this time… Mega.
Of course I'm pretty darn excited about this new Mega service. Especially after how my MF account just got suspended a while back… with absolutely no warnings whatsoever… and the thing is that, i didn’t even have much stuff in my MF account! I only had a few files, each with less than 10 DLs the last time i checked! Not sure if it was cos i tried to upload too many things that day or what but… yeah… i totally understand how painful it must have been for those who shared loads of stuff and then have their MF account just… *poof*. I didn’t have much and those were just mirrors so it really didn’t affect much but…
So I'm definitely worried about this mega site… with all the fanfare that it opened with. From what i guess… that guy doesn’t give a shit about what we upload, and he doesn’t care about piracy for all that matters… but of course to comply with legal issues the files will be taken down if people complain about it… but the way he wants to structure it…
Mega, like Megaupload, allows users to store and share large files. It offers 50 gigabytes of free storage, much more than similar sites such as Dropbox and Google Drive, and features a drag-and-drop upload tool.
The key difference is an encryption and decryption feature for data transfers that Dotcom says will protect him from the legal drama that has entangled Megaupload and threatened to put him behind bars.
The decryption keys for uploaded files are held by the users, not Mega, which means the company can’t see what’s in the files being shared. Dotcom argues that Mega — which bills itself as “the privacy company” — therefore can’t be held liable for content it cannot see.

That's good news… if the company can't even see what's being shared. Heck more like they don't want to see/know. Which is certainly good for us.
What I'm worried about… is whether the feds will force shutdown mega like it did with MU… i wonder how Dotcom's argument will last… either i've signed up for an account already. 50GB sure is nice. Hope the upload/download speed will be as fast (or even faster) as MF. Well i think its pretty slow now though. 14 hours and half a million sign ups kinda taxed their system. This guy is intending to make a music service too… I'll be really interested to see what he does XD
Anyways… 50 GB sure is nice. Shall see how things turn out.
