My techie babies

So... I'm a mac user, and the latest macOS beta broke the razer synapse software and now the lights don't work on my keyboard. Sigh. Changed my razer mouse to the swiftpoint Z and managed to get the front and back buttons working with a work around better touchtool software... But I'm STILL waiting for swiftpoint to release a native mac driver. Sigh. The bad thing about being a mac user who's a geek and gamer at heart. I want to use all the freaking cool buttons on the Z, and that BTT profile thing just doesn't work. Sigh. So yes... Still waiting 9 months on... Sigh.
Anyway.... My creative soundblaster roar 2 speakers haven't been working for a while... Finally got it to turn on by holding the power button and plugging in the DC at the same time, and then getting finally getting the mac to recognise the device... So yay, now it works again. I think that's *almost* all the tech problems I have to solve for now... Almost... For now...
Kinda...
Last week my 2TB HD with pretty much 800 GB of Arashi videos semi-died. Like, mac can only read the HD, not write. Basically the file system got corrupted, and I had to spend the whole week copying the data out to another HD (thank goodness for having 3 HDs!) and then reformatting the drive. So the drive works now, but I'm too lazy to transfer anything back. Phew. Thank goodness my data isn't lost. Though thanks to having paid for backblaze, I'm not that worried about losing data anymore. Still. 800GB... It'll be a pain in the ass to DL all that back, if it's even possible to DL it back before they delete the data at all...
Oh wells. I don't have anything particularly coherent to say, so I'll make myself scarce, cya!
PS: If you're interested to try out backblaze, I would appreciate it if you would use my referral link below, that way we'd both get a month of free service! https://secure.backblaze.com/r/01fa7z

Date: 2018-03-11 06:21 pm (UTC)Where are you from? Backblaze actually lets you order a flash drive or a HD of your backed up files, and if you return the HD/drive back to them within like a month or something, you get a refund on the cost of the HD - meaning that you'll only have to pay for the shipping. It's something that I'm hesitant to use because I'm from Singapore, but if that HD of mine had really died and the data unrecoverable, I might have given that option a go instead of taking forever to try and download the files back.
Actually, backblaze has already saved my ass once. I wanted to reformat a HD for my dad, but the Western Digital reformatting software was kinda messy, and I reformatted my external HD instead!!! Thankfully that was only an old HD with about 180 GB of data in it... And it wasn't *super* important data, so I took maybe 10-14 days letting the file download back to my computer. (Took backblaze like a few hours or 1 day to zip up and prepare the files for DL.) I'm certainly glad my internet connection is decent! :X
Ultimately it depends on how important the data is to you VS the monthly/yearly fee or signing up for a service like backblaze...! But if you're constantly fearing over data loss, backblaze would definitely give you a peace of mind. PS: If you want to up for the service, I would appreciate it if you use my referral link here: https://secure.backblaze.com/r/01fa7z We'll both get a month of free service! thanks!

Date: 2018-03-13 02:18 pm (UTC)Same here!! I started paying for the service only about half a year ago, after hearing sooo many advertisements on those tech podcasts I've been listening to.... Mainly because I would hate to lose my Arashi collection. I don't even half time to watch their shows now, still have like a whole year's worth of backlog that I may never catch up to... But I'm a collector so I just like keeping all those videos. Maybe *someday*, someday I'll get an ideal job that gives me adequate time to fangirl.... And I can watch their 2018 videos and marvel and how young they were haha!
Glad you found the advice useful! And no problem, I love going on and on about stuff that I know, as can be seen by my long winded sticky post on getting started on DW ><
