On Arashi shows... Went out again to look at cars today, and then took a nap... so in the end I didn't watch much shows this weekend!

Some funny stuff that I see around lately...

The new subbed video release on arashi_on... what shop curtain? There's no shop curtain mentioned anywhere in the talk? And then this photo making it's rounds on twitter? LOLOLOLOL! Just hilarious. First off it's a wrong insertion of a pronoun. Secondly... there was no mention of 'difficult' or 'swallow', and there's no amateur either.

Context: Yamada is pretty crazy about soft serve ice cream. There's this brand new soft serve ice cream maker/dispenser... where the dispenser is a 16 sided star, creating many 'corners' in the dispensed ice cream so as to create an interesting texture on the tongue when eating. Yamada's recommendation: Eat the ice cream from the top - take a bite. And then feel the texture on your tongue, and then drink it. Yes drink it, meaning that you wait for the ice cream to melt in your mouth.

That's when that scene comes in. Sho says: Wait, normally people won't drink it even.

And then they go on to talk about how normal people will just eat the ice cream rather than wait for it to melt in your mouth.

Oh wells. *shrugs*

Anyway.

Arashi will have a new single... for Aiba's drama. It's expected so no surprises there... and nope I'm not interested in buying singles. Unless I suddenly get a... 3 fold salary increase or something.

Been just. Really tired recently. And tmr is gonna be another battle. Hope I can get as far as I planned to... sigh. And I'd better not make any mistakes! Right. That's all for *now*.

Shall do a mixlr broadcast later... since it's been months since I last did one. Then maybe I'll take the time then to post some photos.

Hello, I'm the translator and editor of the both of the releases... i can only express how genuinely embarassed and ashamed I feel for the mistakes that I made. It wasn't even anything difficult but yet...

The shop curtain thing, in the original raw there was a caption saying "noren" and as far as I know, norens are traditional fabric dividers often used by shops so I thought that writing "shop curtain" would be the best fit.. as I thought that the VS arashi editing staff was suggesting that Nino's hat resembles a shop curtain of its kind.... unless there's something i missed...

as of the abunai yakai one, you're completely right, again, I don't know if i was out of my mind during that part that I didn't notice it.
It terrifies me even more when I realize that these mistakes and misinterpretations can go as far as to circulating around twitter and other sites. I should have kept that in mind.

Anyway, I have no excuse for this and I sincerely feel bad for what I did. I've been always aware that there ought to be mistakes in my translations but there weren't many people who would actually correct me. That's why, thank you for pointing it out.

Maybe I should stop for a while, ne..

It is really terrifying - the fact how people can easily forget that fansubbing is not always perfectly correct, and in our case it is definitely not perfectly correct. That's why I become kind of grumpy whenever people ask me for re-translations (although I might not seem like it as I always say yes...) when I myself am insecure about my own translations and also especially when I see that even their English doesn't really seem to be very proficient (again, not saying that my English is perfect). But I don't want to assume things from a little piece of text so all I can do is to write a little reminder that it's better to have someone who knows Japanese and check it for them...

ahh sorry, this turned into a little bit of an unrelated rant..

No worries, I accept criticism and correction in practically any way as long as I get to know what's wrong and how I can make it right. I wouldn't say that they don't believe that there are mistakes, I suppose that it's just the fact that very few people have been pointing out errors or mistakes (which is understandable because those who are able to spot it probably don't watch subbed videos in the first place... ) has got us into a false state of mind that there is probably nothing to spot out. Which is not true, of course.

Yes, I was working on the Kame AniShi too and I did hear there was something wrong with it, I just couldn't find what. It has been actually bothering me for quite while lol - what was wrong with it? :D

Me too, I'm not on social sites like twitter or tumblr either, so I rarely get to see anything of this sort. I just hope it's not too bad and there aren't any groups like "translation fails" or anything like that. *cough* Because that would be really depressing haha.

Kanji is a great thing, although I have no background in it before learning Japanese kanji. I'm always really grateful for the flashy Japanese subtitles because it's more secure and I can always look it up exactly as it is in a dictionary. It's much better for me than just hearing things out and guessing what I heard.
Yeah, that's the thing, nowadays I'm not even sure about the official translators who are doing this as their job... translating is tough especially when neither of the languages you're working with are your native language haha. Funny thing is that I have a friend who is studying translation and they won't let them properly translate until the end of 2nd year or something. While I'm here, without any proper qualification, misleading people from time to time lol.. *gonna bury myself in the ground*

Ahh so it was that! I remember looking almost everywhere just not there. It was really
a simpler thing than I thought.

Thank you! No I can soundly sleep lol

And please don't be angry at them, it's mainly my fault that it turned out the way it did, I should have addressed this problem the moment I heard about it.

Ahh, forgive me for indirectly butting into that subject... To tell the truth, I've heard some bits of what happened, but mainly from one side so I can't really form a valid opinion..

Let's just say that I've been "working" with girls for a while now and there weren't any problems so far. They helped me whenever I needed to and I was glad to help them whenever they asked.

I'd say... sometimes the way things turn out make us become completely different people in certain situations and in the heat of things we might overreact and say things without thinking and maybe not even meaning it like that.. it's even worse in the internet communication as you can never see the expression or hear the tone +many other factors, so things can get misunderstood even more... and then it's hard to act rationally or properly think about how the other side would feel... I mean, I'm sure you know all of this, sorry for starting up a weird essay lol

What I'm trying to express is that I feel sorry that things turned out the way they did for both of you (of the groups) But I guess that one can't get along with everyone as everyone has a different character.

As I said, I've been with them for a little while and I consider them as friends. From that amount of time I've known them, I think they are nice people although not flawless and there might be few disagreeable things but that's the same with me and surely with everyone else too.

I think I should shut up now haha.
