So went to the career fair just now. Day 2 of the career fair, and the most interesting/relevant one for me. Talked quite some bit with Duke-NUS on their PhD and MD-PhD programmes... and then IBN. Ah IBN. Saw Amanda there and talked to her for a bit. She's the HR personal there and I know here from all the crazy number of times I've been there for internship, and when I tried and failed to get a job there. It was nice meeting her here and we talked for a bit, and she updated me with info about my mentors. The PI has just published a paper on nature. His first paper on that green tea stuff apparently. Finally, he's been working on that green tea stuff for so long!!! Since I was an intern student there in JC. That's nearly 10 years ago. But a paper in Nature wow. All those years of work has finally paid off. And my mentor. He's finally doing something towards getting a PhD I heard. Finally. After all those years. In a way I'm scared that I'll end up being like him. He wasn't much older than I am now when we first met. And he started wanted to get a PhD then. Even when I met him last year he hadn't really moved towards getting a PhD I think. So I was really glad to hear that he's finally moving towards it. What about myself? >< Still as lost as ever huh? I just have to be careful about being too comfortable, and staying the status quo for too long... Really... working in such a comfortable environment, I can see why my mentor ended up the way he was. He was comfortable, he isn't the competitive type with high aspirations. A self satisfied man I would say? And single, alone in sg, with not much expenses. He earned enough for himself and he was satisfied.
Before I knew it a year has passed by here. Before I know it another year would pass and I'd still be here, in the same place, same state... once you stop it's hard to get moving again... ><
Ah the career fair today though... somehow they weren't giving out recycle bags at all. Environmentally friendly I guess... but couldn't they have like... told me or something? I didn't bring any bag along and I left arm totally died from carrying all those brochures and notebooks and whatever else they were giving out. And no I wasn't even there to pinch goodies! It was just interesting to talk to people from the various companies and stat boards to know what departments there are in sg.
That's all for now. I'm really hungry for reasons unknown... >< found THAT nature paper, shall download it now!
