Wow! So many new subbing communities on LJ now, sugoi! So happy that the subbing community is becoming alive again! There are so many arashi shows right now waiting to be subbed :P

I just... signed up as a subber for http://shitanuri-team.livejournal.com/. Been wanting to try subbing for a while... cos yeah in truth, i do 'sub' like 70-80% of a show in my reviews... so yup.. finally signed up for a job. Actually been asking octavialao about it for a while, but she ignored me last time :( haha. Maybe she just didnt see my message :P

So so... i've been broadcasting quite a lot ever since i paid that 5 bucks of premium subscription on mixlr. Turns out that if I'd joined a month earlier i could have gotten a year's free trial of pro membership! Darn, darn, just darn it! So yeah... I figure. If i paid my 5 USD (it was USD i think? :X ), I'd better make good use of it and broadcast more? Well I'm kinda addicted to broadcasting now... its so fun talking to people on random topics. And I'm proud to say that i've definitely improved. I'm not so nervous anymore and i actually TALK about random things instead of just introducing the songs and nothing else. Still, loads of room for improvement as always.... :)

And ne ne... i got rejected from the new subbing group cos i clicked join, then happily went about my business at mixlr and then when my mixlr broadcast ended i got rejected cos i didn’t make an intro post :( pfffft! Well i hope they'll accept me this time haha. Actually it was because i saw their comm and request for translators that I decided to ask octavia if she needed translators again. Cos if she doesn’t, I'd just join the new comm haha. Since I do feel a little to free these days :P.
Edit: request approve, yay! I really need to make a list of all the subbing comms... so that next time if anyone ask I can just direct them to my list haha XD

Been wondering if i'll still have time to do my reviews... or is there still... idk... value in doing the reviews since there'll be subs and all but... hmm... idk. Doing a transcript and a review at the same time? Maybe i'll try that...? We'll see... but reviews are fun in the sense that i get to talk about all sorts of crap in the reviews... like laugh at Sho failing epicly in VSA for eg. Or maybe its time for me to review Nino-san or Aiba manabu... shows that don't really have subs yet. Yes... maybe i'll do that... since i watch those anyway... and they're shorter too haha.

Watch last week's episode of yowakutemo and I'm just loving it so much! bratty Nino ahhhhhhh! Love it love it love it!

Hmm... I wonder if i should do a mixlr broadcast tmr. Having too much fun with it already hahaha!

So I decided that it was time for my intro post to get an update... added a few new chunks to all the previous wall of text that I already had... also added links to all the 'resources' I have in LJ... since LJ can make it so hard to find old posts sometimes. Here's the bulk of the new changes :P

I am taking the N3 JLPT exam next month, but I've not studied much yet. I guess I'm pretty much only studying what I can from Arashi shows. My wanting to do subs in part of my effort to learn Japanese is a more... fun way. I have also started doing radio broadcasts on mixlr. Please join me during my live broadcasts if the timings suit you (I'm mainly broadcasting on random weekdays, 10 pm to 1am JST), otherwise you can listen to a recording of my broadcasts on my mixlr showreel. It'll be great if you can join us live though! You can chat with other Arashi fans, request for songs, and join in our random talk :). So far I've only been at broadcasting for less than 2 weeks, but I'm really having loads of fun, and I'm proud to say that I'm not nervous when talking during my broadcasts anymore. Haha, I'm not a public speaker by nature and I've hardly had chance to do presentations since my secondary school days, so I was really a nervous wreck during my first broadcast. It also really made me very happy to meet Arashi fans who loved my fics during the broadcast. I really didn't know that so many people have read and love my fics - because many people don't comment after reading. So I'm really glad to know that my works have actually been read, and loved!

How did I get into all these Arashi fandom related activities?
I started off writing fanfics because... I'm a science person. I would say that I'm good at doing scientific writing. But scientific writing is scientific writing. Sentences are kept short, and concise. No bombastic words or flowery language. And you get to the point. You don't beat around the bush. And I'm good at that. I guess you can probably still see a lot of the influence in my fiction as well. You can say that it's part of my writing style already? So yeah, I started writing fics because I don't want to just be a good scientific writer. I'd like to write other stuff too. Like fiction. And so I did. I can't say that I'm the best writer, but I'm starting to 'loosen' my style in fiction writing now. No you know... sticking to having short sentences and only 1 idea per sentence sort of thing as you see in science. And I do love it when I have random, fun ideas to write about. At times like these is when writing is most enjoyable.

As for TV reviews, I started out when I saw the [livejournal.com profile] arashi_bangumi advert on [livejournal.com profile] arashi_on. I got an app called Marsedit and it handles all the screenshot uploading so I thought, hey, why not give it a try? And it just went on from there. And as I did reviews, more and more people asked me (some even in a very accusing tone :( ) to do subs. And I have always refused... eventually though, I liked the idea of doing subs more and more, and it helps that I do actually have a few hours free in the evenings (if I don't waste it playing on my phone) that I could do some transcripts with. It also helps that I've been doing so many reviews and I actually do transcribe quite a lot of their talk already. I don't know if my style of translating is good for subs though. I don't translate word for word, but rather the meaning as a whole, and then I try and find a sentence with a decent equivalent meaning, that makes decent grammatical sense and use that. In a way you can say my translations sound better in English, but might not be as precise? Like I do take more liberties with my translation...? Is it that way? Maybe some experienced translator can give me some comments on my subs next time. Constructive criticism is always welcome! Just try to be nice when pointing out my mistakes ok? :P Bad thing about subbing: I'll have to rewatch quite a bit to catch every single sentence said, and I have no choice but to translate everything. No skipping and skimping off like I can do with reviews. I'd still like to do reviews... though I'm not sure if I'll have the time. With reviews I can comment and talk about random stuff and all... Ok that's about all for now!
