Of numbers and figures! (on LJ)

coolohohI've been thinking about this lately...
I do have quite an obsession with numbers and figures. Even though I'm not exactly what you would call a math person - abstract concepts like algebra and calculus kills me. I am pretty comfortable with statistics though, and probability. Those two topics were my saving grace back in junior college. I would constantly score full or close to full marks for those topics, and w/o those I would have just failed all my math tests.
But yes statistics.
Thanks to DNA. And a little to RNA too, my number of comments made has been shooting through the roof. Over 5.6k comments made right now! And just a little while back I've not even reached 5k yet. It's exciting too, to see my user rating go higher and higher up the rankings! From over 2.2k, it went down to 2.1k, then below the 2k mark, and now it stands at 1.8k! I wonder how far up I can go hahaha! It was amazing to see how the ranking kept going up even though I've not posted anything!
RNA too, even though we only have 67 members right now, our community ranking is pretty darn far up. It's in the 1k position! And it's still going up, even though there has been nothing posted for a few days now, and no advertisement of Octavia's bday fic for me too. I wonder how these rankings are calculated. Too bad DNA has gone underground hahaha. Really love our minions there, all the conversations we've had! :)
I guess the reason why I'm so erm... obsessed with all these data (I also check out how many visitors we are getting on the comms and all) is because I'm a science person. I do research. I analyze my results and data. These figures makes me motivated too. Everyone's comments do too, but you know, you don't get any comment if you don't have a new release, or a new post made. But the stats and data are always there. Comments come after a piece of work is finished, and it makes me feel that all the effort put in was worth while - it also motivates me if I'm currently working on something else too. But if I've had a little break, there will be no new comments and it's these stats, and my fellow Mafias that helps keep the motivation up.
Like... I know my user rating will probably drop soon, so now that makes me keep an eye out for little interesting snippets of news, or even magazine interviews to translate. Then again, actually getting round to do them is a different thing... but you get the idea.
I guess that's also why I keep track on things like... the number of fics I have written. Or the number of TV reviews I have done. Seeing their numbers increase is the most... direct and easiest way to see my growth. Of course, as I was copying and reformatting all my fics for RNA, I read through my old works and realized how much I can grown as a fanfic writer, and that made me really happy. Like my writing style and all, it's changed much since then - hopefully for the better.
I guess haters will say like 'you're just out for fame etc etc'. Yeah sure, I do like being known. Who doesn't? But I work hard for it. And getting recognition is in no way my primary purpose. It just serves as a nice motivation. I see it as a way to track my progress. Especially numbers of how many releases we've had etc. There is nothing I can freakin do with this online, virtual fame anyway. It won't get me a job, it won't get me money, it won't feed me... My works do let me befriend other Arashi fans though, and I'm glad for that.
Alright. That's all for this post for now. Almost 300 messages in my LJ inbox now hahaha! All the notifications from all the comments! Thank you everyone for your support! I look forward to bringing more Arashi goodness to everyone in the future, yoroshiku ne!
PS: I heard that some really bad things have been going on in the fandom recently. I'm not sure exactly what happened (anyone can enlighten me?).... but seriously... what's wrong with those people?

I do appreciate with you mafias, replying every comments, I know it's hard and lots of work. I believe every minions whose sent you comments and get replied back are so happy, and it's livening the comm.
Keep up, and we always support you - and your numbering addict :D
