Platinum Data

Ah i've been posting less and less now...

have not checked my lj feed in a couple of days... bleah goodness knows how many fics i've missed ><

and arashi shows! not watched them since about... 2 months ago? ok, my fault. been mapling the moment i get home... almost... :P but its fine... i'll have plenty of arashi shows to watch myself silly next time hehe

PLATINUM DATA! Yes! I caught it with my sis and her friend on like the very last day of screening in sg. Haha feel so proud of myself! It’s the first ever arashi movie i watched in the theaters ok! By arashi movie i mean movie with arashi member(s) in it. Ok not that there was many arashi movies aired in sg... HnA final, but i wasn’t an arashi fan then... Gantz (1 and 2 i guess?)... and now platinum data. I hope nazodi will come sg!

work has been crazy recently... there's been days when i get off work at like 9pm and such... so i was really lucky that i had the responsible use and care of lab animals course on wedn... the course is a full day thing, but ends at 5pm, so i took the chance to go out for dinner + movie watching after that XD

super fun day!

we got to do stuff like performing all the different kinds of injection on rat, mice and rabbit... (subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular, intravenous... okok, my spelling sucks and I'm too lazy to check...) each of us got a handle a mouse... (and killed a mouse)... we worked in groups of 4 for the rabbit, and pairs for the rat. so yeah 1 group of four killed 4 mice, 1 rabbit, and 2 rats. gosh do i sound like a psycho now? >< but yes, since the animals were being sacrificed for training purposes, i tried to practice as much as possible. get the most out of it ya know... :X and yes, all the animals were anesthetize before the procedures.

ok... enough about the animals..

the movie was pretty good by my standards. my friend watched it on the plane ride back form japan (business trip, lucky her :P) and was telling me like how 1) nino actually isnt a main character, unlike what all the advertising suggests???? 2) there was a lot of logical flaws 3) overall it was bad... the only redemption is how handsome nino was. (yes, she's an avid arashi fan too) 4) it was vastly different from the book

so i went to watch the movie myself to see how i felt... and i found her comments pretty... weird...
1) nino is the main character through and through. ok, asama is the main character too, they are co-stars... but how is nino not the main? i think he got the most screen time, the whole story was revolving around him and asama trying to catch him... dafuq? i don't understand why my friend felt otherwise :X
2) logical flaws? I spot none. nothing serious like aiba's mikeneko holmes anyway... no actually, i can't think of any logical flaws at all? ok... there's a bunch of unexplained stuff, as was always the case with movies. like how that female doctor (mina something? gosh do i suck at names) managed to frame nino for killing the siblings... how come she managed to frame nino this time, but didn’t cover up her tracks for the rest of the NF13 cases? or how come they didn’t detect her dna this time round? this part is unexplained but i wont say it’s a logical flaw. scientific accuracy wise... i think overall its fine. it’s a sci-fi story after all...well i do have some issues with how they store their DNA but yeah... and them using microscopes a lot? for what? see the dna? nah that's just impossible... :X but it doesn’t affect the story in anyway so...
3) for me, overall it was great. Nino's acting was good, i could see the effort he put in to portray the two different characters. sometimes it wasn’t that obvious which was which though... but I'm not sure if it could have been done any better... still, i'll rate it like 95/100. because there's always room for improvement ne? ;)
4) how many adaptations stay 100% true to its origin? very few, i believe. the adapted story turns out alright so I'm fine with it

ah i was soooo amused. you know near the beginning there's this whole clip on the DNA collection process from citizens and school children... and then some lab equipment... while they flashed the names of the actors and actresses...? ha i spotted an ion torrent machine in there! Ion torrent gosh! my boss was just asking those guys over at ion torrent to give us a presentation about their system. it is for DNA sequencing, and we might be acquiring one in the future. cool stuff, really cool and happy to see it in the movie... even if it was only for 1 brief second haha

yup. so that's my report on the movie. partly cos I'm a biologist i guess... so i enjoyed it quite a lot. ah and the ending song... it was amusing to hear the song in... 4D? haha as in coming out from all 4 directions in the movie theater (ok, its just the surround sound system) like some parts were clearly from behind, some from the front... when you listen with your headphones/earphones its just a left and right splitting, so 4D was like omgz so cool XD

work wise. its been really hectic. cos the phd guy quit so the editing of this important report what's due at the end of this month goes to me. since my boss is busy with a business proposal (ok, i helped/have to help with that too), and the other colleague is a china guy... he just came to sg for his masters so his english is not good... not bad either, but definitely not good enough to edit and polish the report. and the thing is i just joined the company, i don't know enough about the project to write about it... the phd guy + our collaborators wrote the bulk of it already... but the english is really terrible. written in 1st person when it should be 3rd, and some parts was just going ard in circles... really drives me crazy. (disclaimer: i don't actually write so incoherently when it comes to proper school work/work, especially when its scientific report writing...) in the first place i don't even know about the project enough to know what you are supposed to be writing about... and now you are asking me to figure out what you are trying to say???? gosh some parts was just impossible to figure out... still got quite a lot of work to do for that report. and at the same time we have to prepare for the grant application for part 2 of this same project. gosh... the china guy (sorry, just don't wanna say names, not I'm not being racist or anything) is reading up on how to do that, but there's so much thinking and brainstorming that we'll need to do... and i can imagine that the moment I'm done with this report I'd be thrust into the editing for that grant proposal... and in between i'll also need to help my boss with the business proposal... (she actually asked if i was free on sat to help her crunch some numbers... but i just didn’t feel like it and refused >< bad me much? :P)

crazy crazy crazy! and there's the intern students to take care of as well... so back home I'm either still working, or else i'll be playing my hearts out like a mad women in maple story. yes. living a crazy life. but i do love it that way. a crazy place for crazy people. thinking back, I'd nvr have stay with that insurance job for long. too boring/un-challenging. man this IS life. so crazy, so exciting, exploding like a firework everyday... its been just past a month of me starting work there but yet i feel so part of the family. ok not that the family is big anyway... but my boss expects a lot of initiative, and she is willing to give you the power to carry out what is needed. yeah stressful too... its like she's out for business meetings most of the time, and when she comes back to the office she expects everything to be done perfectly. that was what the phd student couldn’t do. he couldn’t lead, couldn’t make decisions, made a lot of mistakes and drove my boss nuts. right now in this small puny company, everyone needs to be a leader, and be all rounded... and i believe that's what i excel at. exams and all are my weaknesses... :X feeling so much more confident then when i just started work... but as my dad was reminding me yesterday... i need to constantly keep my ego in check and learn humbly, learn fast. in the end i might even go get an MBA instead of a phd... and work on a more managerial side of things rather than purely scientific. who knows? such an exciting future ahead... so many things to learn, and so many opportunities. okays, shall edit a bit more of the report before... playing, or gng out with my family...

cheers and peace out!
